After previous topping the International Congress & Convention Association’s list in 2014, Paris has reclaimed first place for 2016 with 196 meetings – one more than the figure achieved by Berlin the previous year.
Even though the order of cities in 2016 was quite different from 2015, the same five cities made up the top 5: Vienna climbed two places (186 meetings) to second and Barcelona remained third (181), while Berlin fell from first to fourth (176) and London remained fifth (153).
In the ICCA 2016 Country Rankings, France rose one place to fourth, with 545 international association meetings held last year.
“These results are particularly remarkable in a year when Paris hosted the Euro 2016 football championships, a major international event that placed extra demands on Parisian hotels for several weeks,” commented Viparis, an events management company operating a number of leading venues in the Paris region.
Last year’s trends look set to continue in 2017: the new soon-to-open Paris Convention Center at the Porte de Versailles is expected to be the “largest, finest convention center in Europe.”
