More than €80 billion was spent online in France last year, according to a recently published report from French e-commerce and remote sales federation FEVAD.
Some 37 million French online shoppers are thought to have spent an average of €65 on each of their online purchases last year, with a total of nearly 1.2 billion online transactions recorded, 20% more than in 2016. The Christmas period saw the highest figures, with €16.5 billion of purchases made in November and December, compared with €14 billion in 2016.
The report also featured a profile of the typical French e-shopper, who last year made an average of 33 online purchases amounting to €2,200, with a steady increase in items bought via smartphones. The report also concluded that the French pay close attention to product ratings and warranties when making their purchases.
