Chinese firm BYD (Build Your Dreams) announced last week it had decided to invest in an electric bus assembly facility in France. After pitting a number of different locations in Europe against one other, BYD finally plumped for an eight-hectare site and 32,000 sq. m. logistics platform in Allonne on the outskirts of Beauvais (Hauts de France region) that used to belong to French tire manufacturer Michelin.
Operations at BYD’s new French site will include vehicle maintenance and repair, as well as a logistics center for spare parts, while in the longer term there are also plans for a battery test center.
The initial phase of the project (2017-2018) is worth €10 million and will create 100 jobs out of a total of 400 over the three coming years.
BYD is a global leader in electric buses and batteries, with sales and marketing subsidiaries in various countries, as well as manufacturing facilities in China, India, the United States (California), Brazil and Romania.
